Director biography.

Clare Sturges is an award-winning screen director whose films convey powerful human stories through cinematic visual storytelling, evocative detail and a close attention to film craft. Nature and loss are important motifs in her work.


Clare has recently directed and produced an Amazon Original feature documentary Surviving The Tunisia Beach Attack, which premiered on Amazon Prime in May 2025, and reached No.4 in the UK.

Clare was the first woman to win the BAFTA Cymru Breakthrough Award – in 2015 – for Sexwork, Love & Mr Right, which she produced and directed. She won a second BAFTA Cymru Award in 2016 for My Brief Eternity, which was also longlisted for BIFA and EE BAFTA short film awards. Clare was nominated for the BAFTA Cymru Director Factual Award in 2023 for Apple TV+ / BBC documentary Charlie Mackesy: The Boy, The Mole, The Fox, The Horse and Me

Clare has directed 6x30” episodes of BBC continuing drama and shortform commissions for clients including Google and Intel. Her shortform drama The Arborist, starring Catrin Stewart and Rhodri Meilir, was nominated for a BAFTA Cymru Award in 2020. She is an Associate Member of BAFTA and a member of Directors UK. Her films have screened at BAFTA and Oscar-qualifying festivals around the world.
